Josie was a poorly-placed pup, given to a family who didn't
know what they were getting into. They loved her dearly, but could no longer
take her willfulness and destructive behavior that was a result of boredom, and
lack of activity & discipline. Josie has had some basic obedience training, can
walk nicely on a leash, is crate-trained, enjoys playing with other hounds, and
seems to have good housemanners; she is at heart a sweet & happy girl.
Unfortunately, like a lot of Harriers that come into Rescue, she was not
disciplined or adequately controlled, so thought she was in charge of the
household. We are working to change her point of view on that.
Josie needs to go to a new home with at least 1 other dog to play with to keep
her occupied, and a home that will continue to keep her in line and controlled.
Although she loves to play, she probably should not go to a house with children as she can snap at people if allowed to get away with it.
Name: Kerry
Name: Max
Age: 1.5 yrs
Sex: Neutered male
Description: Max was raised as an only-dog by a family who loved him dearly - unfortunately, they were not prepared to handle the mental & physical requirements of an adolescent male Harrier. He was given over to rescue when his behavior became more than they could deal with - mainly fence-jumping, boredom, & dominance problems.
He is being rehabilitated in California, where Max is learning what his correct place is in the scheme of things (i.e. he will learn that he is NOT in charge!). He will have more obedience work in order to give him some measure of control, and will also have refresher training on his house manners and social skills with other hounds. Max is not a mean dog by any means, and seems to be very sweet & intelligent underneath it all.
Max needs to be placed in a home that is very familiar with hounds, and that has the skill to handle him. Ideally, that would also be a home with a non-dominant dog or two to keep him occupied and happy.
Max has been adopted by a family in the Los Angeles Area!!! A Harrier Rescue Success Story!!!
